“Forget about the fact you’re trying”

“Do you really think daily ovulation testing is going to help? You don’t want to become obsessed”


You might have heard something similar if you’re also TTC. I know people are just trying to be helpful but, sorry hun, if you’re not in my position then you have zero idea what I need to be doing right now.

I mean come on, let’s really think about this.

You’re 15 and taking your GCSEs. Someone tells you not to worry about them. What do you do? Worry.

You’re 17 and taking your driving test. Apparently being nervous won’t help at all. But how do you feel? You’re bloody shitting yourself.

You’re 22 and starting your first job. “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine!” Well yes I probably will be but that doesn’t stop my stomach from doing somersaults.

So why the hell would getting pregnant be any different?

I am going to worry. I will get stressed. And I do need to test everyday. Because that’s who I am. I need something to focus on. And not testing would make me a whole lot more stressed. So actually, I’m doing what I can to keep my stress levels to a minimum. Just because it isn’t what you might do, doesn’t mean it isn’t right for me.

I admit, before being in this position, I was giving people I know just the same advice. Now I realise how unhelpful I actually was.

Every journey is an individual one and you cannot understand it unless you are in it.
